Do you want to take overall responsibility for finance while also driving development in an international organisation with a clear mission? We are now looking for a Head of Finance who wants to combine operational work with developing future financial management.

About RWI

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) is an independent academic institution that combines interdisciplinary research with education, support, and outreach activities to contribute to increased understanding of and respect for human rights and international humanitarian law.

We operate in over 40 countries worldwide, and have offices in Lund (head office), Bangkok, Harare, Jakarta, Kyiv, Nairobi, Phnom Penh, and Yerevan.

About the role as Head of Finance

As Head of Finance, you have overall responsibility and working operationally with accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.

The position is part of a small finance team based in Lund and works closely with finance functions across offices outside Sweden. The role includes coordinating and allocating the day-to-day work of the Lund-based finance team (currently three employees), while line management responsibility rests with the Department Director. The position is a member of the senior management team and contributes a financial perspective to both strategic and operational decision-making.

You will also drive the development of the organisation’s financial management and financial processes, with a particular focus on digitalisation and efficient ways of working. For example, a transition to rolling forecasts will be implemented to enable more dynamic and forward-looking financial management.

Our funding is diversified, with both public and private donors, which means a complex financial structure and places high demands on careful follow-up, risk management, and tailored reporting. Managing different donors’ requirements and expectations is a central part of the role.

Travel to countries where we have projects may be required, including travel to fragile contexts.

This is a permanent position with a six (6) month probationary period.

About you

We are looking for someone with a university degree in economics and with at least five years of experience working in a broad finance function within a medium-sized organisation. You enjoy being operational and combining financial management with development work and innovation. You have previous experience in analysing, budgeting, forecasting and preparing annual accounts.

As a colleague, you are unpretentious and communicative, with the ability to manage your own work and collaborate within the finance team. You have experience working with different financial systems and feel comfortable with digital tools.

Experience from international or donor-funded organisations is an advantage, but not a requirement.

You are fluent in English and Swedish, both spoken and written, and can adapt your communication to different target groups and formal contexts.

To thrive with us, we believe you appreciate a dynamic environment and have a solution-oriented mindset. We value innovation and continuous improvement and look forward to benefiting from your ideas and experience.
